About Old Brickworks Nature Reserve
Walkers will find decent footpaths threading through the reserve, and it's the kind of spot where you might actually see something - water birds on the ponds, dragonflies in summer, the occasional heron if you're lucky. The landscape tells you what it is: deep holes where extraction happened, now flooded and supporting wildlife. History buffs get a kick out of industrial archaeology without needing plaques or a visitor centre.
There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and you can potter about for an hour or three depending on how much ground you want to cover. Time your visit for late spring or summer when the ponds are properly alive. Winter's quieter and muddier.
If you're camping at one of the Chase parks dotted around the area - Tackeroo, Four Oaks Farm, or Silver Trees - this makes a solid half-day break from base camp. It's close enough to Rugeley to combine with a town visit if you're after a coffee stop or supplies, but far enough out to feel like proper countryside. Not Instagram-worthy, but honest and worth the petrol.
