Nutnell Pool

The water at Nutnell Pool sits still and dark, reflecting whatever sky decides to show up that day. It's a proper working reservoir just outside Worcester, the sort of place locals know about but casual visitors tend to miss entirely. You can walk the perimeter - takes a good hour depending on pace and how often you stop - and the banks are lined with enough trees to feel properly removed from the world despite being minutes from the city.

It's ideal for walkers rather than swimmers. The paths are decent underfoot though muddy after rain, and birdwatchers get genuinely excited here - you'll spot herons, cormorants, and if you're lucky, kingfishers if you keep still and quiet. Children will manage the walk fine but won't be entertained for more than ninety minutes unless they're the sort who like spotting birds and skipping stones.

The fishing is serious business - if you're after that, you'll need to check access arrangements beforehand as it's not a free-for-all spot. Bring binoculars if you've got them. Best visited on a clear day when the reflection actually works, and early morning catches the light properly without the dog walkers yet.

It slots nicely into a broader Worcestershire walking loop. Both Hidden England Escapes and Orleton Court Farm Campsite sit close enough that you could base yourself there for a few days and combine this with walks around the Malvern Hills or along the Severn. Don't expect facilities - there's no cafe, no visitors' centre. Just water, trees, and the sort of peace that makes you remember why you left the city.
