Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum

The War Memorial Museum sits in Lisburn, just south of Belfast, and it's a serious, respectful space dedicated to Northern Ireland's military history. You're looking at exhibitions covering everything from the First World War through to more recent conflicts - uniforms, photographs, personal accounts, and artefacts that tell the stories of soldiers and civilians who lived through these periods.

This is absolutely the place to go if you're interested in military history or keen to understand Northern Ireland's role in the bigger picture. It's not a cheerful day out, mind you - it's heavy, emotional stuff. But it's handled with genuine care and the displays are properly done. Families with older children will get something out of it; younger kids might find it a bit much, depending on their temperament.

Both Dundonald Touring Caravan Park and The Pods at Streamvale are within easy reach - about 4 to 5 miles away - which makes the museum a decent addition to a caravan park break in the area. You could comfortably spend two to three hours here without feeling rushed. Check opening times and admission fees before you visit, as these do change seasonally.

It's worth the trip if military history matters to you. If you're just after a cheerful afternoon activity, though, you might want to look elsewhere.
