About North Landing Beach

The chalky cliffs at North Landing are what make this beach worth the trip from Bridlington. You get proper dramatic white headlands dropping straight into the North Sea, the kind of backdrop that makes you understand why people used to fear these waters. It's a working fishing village too - boats still launch from the shingle beach, which gives the place an actual pulse rather than the sanitised feel of many Yorkshire seaside spots.

The beach itself is shingle and sand, fine for paddling or a bracing swim if you're mad enough. The real draw is the walk. Head up towards Flamborough Head and you'll get some of the best coastal views on the east coast - on clear days you can see for miles down the coastline. Walkers and photography types will get hours out of this; families with young kids might find the shingle a bit of a slog after the first twenty minutes.

There's a working harbour here with a proper chippy and a couple of cafes, so you can grab lunch without heading back to Bridlington. The cliffs themselves are geologically interesting if that's your thing - they're constantly eroding, which is slightly alarming but also rather mesmerising to watch.

Stay at Haven Thornwick Bay if you want a holiday park on your doorstep - it's barely half a mile away. The Old Mill further inland is quieter if you prefer that. Allow half a day minimum, longer if you fancy tackling the headland walk. Go on a clear day or don't bother - the weather here turns grey and miserable quickly.
