Newton Moor Top

You'll find Newton Moor Top a straightforward climb from the Clitheroe side of the Ribble Valley, and it's the sort of walk that rewards without demanding too much effort. The summit itself isn't dramatic - there's no cairn or trig point to celebrate, just moorland that opens up proper views across Lancashire when the weather plays ball. On a clear day you can pick out the Pennines rolling away to the east, and westwards the land drops away towards the coastal plains.

This is walker's territory, genuinely. It's not a destination that'll keep kids entertained for hours, but it's a decent half-day outing if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Malham Glamping Pods or Hedgerow Luxury Glamping. The walk itself takes a couple of hours from the roadside car park, and the terrain is rough moorland - proper boots needed after rain. There's no café or facilities at the top, so come prepared.

The real draw here is that it sits within the wider Bowland landscape, so if you're doing a longer stay in the area, it slots nicely between visits to the Trough of Bowland and trips into Clitheroe itself. The moor doesn't feel crowded even on weekends, which is increasingly rare in the Peak District proper. Expect solitude, grass underfoot, and the kind of views that make you remember why you got out of the car in the first place.
