The National Museums NI spreads across several locations, with the main hub in Belfast - you'll find everything from Irish dinosaurs to medieval gold here. The building itself is rather grand, all Victorian red brick and glass, but it's what's inside that matters. You get proper Natural History galleries with fossils that'll make geology nerds weep, plus decorative arts, local history, and rotating exhibitions that actually make you think instead of just shuffling past.

It's genuinely free entry, which is rare for a museum of this calibre. Budget two to three hours minimum if you're thorough; families with younger kids might manage the highlights in ninety minutes. The natural history section works especially well for children - dinosaurs are dinosaurs everywhere, but seeing Irish ones feels more real somehow.

Where it sits in your park holiday is the weather wildcard. Dundonald Touring Caravan Park is only twenty minutes away, and The Pods at Streamvale even closer - both solid bases if the rain rolls in (which it will). This isn't a thrilling day out if you're after fresh air and fell walking, but on a damp Tuesday when the kids are climbing the walls, it's excellent. The café's forgettable but serviceable.

Not life-changing, but perfectly respectable for an afternoon. Belfast's close enough that you could combine it with a quick city centre mooch and call the day well spent.
