Myarth

The walk up Myarth is deceptively short but punches well above its weight. From Crickhowell, this peak rises 886 metres and delivers proper views across the Brecon Beacons without requiring the full day commitment of some of the bigger summits nearby.

You're looking at roughly two hours up and back, making it ideal if you're based at Cwmdu Campsite just down the valley and fancy a half-day outing with real payoff. The approach is straightforward - well-trodden paths that even reasonably fit walkers won't struggle with, though it's steep enough in patches to raise the heart rate. On a clear day, the panorama across Mid Wales is genuinely excellent. You can see why locals rate it.

Families with older kids will manage fine here. Younger ones might find the final push a bit of a slog, but the actual terrain isn't technical. The ground can be boggy lower down after rain, so decent boots matter. Free to access, obviously - it's a mountain.

What strikes you most is how few people you'll encounter compared to the busier Beacons peaks. That solitude is worth something. It works particularly well paired with the nearby Pencelli Castle park if you're planning a walking-focused few days. Do it early to catch the light, and avoid mist season if views are your main draw. Not a destination in itself, but a cracking addition to any Mid Wales rambling trip.
