Moine na h-Airde

The walk up Moine na h-Airde takes you straight into proper Highland terrain without pretence. It's a modest peak by Scottish standards - nothing that'll knacker you out - but the scramble to the top delivers views across Loch Etive and back towards Ben Cruachan that justify the effort.

From Oban, you're looking at a straightforward approach. The path climbs steadily through heather and rough grassland, becoming rockier as you gain height. On a clear day, the vista opens right out across the Argyll landscape. On a grey one - which is most days - you get that moody, atmospheric Highland experience that photographs never quite capture.

This is a walk for people who actually enjoy walking, not Instagram followers after a quick summit shot. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the last push tedious. Allow a good three hours return trip from the car park.

Where it fits into a park holiday depends on what you're after. Oban Holiday Park sits just 3.7 miles away and makes a solid base for exploring this corner of Argyll. Tanunda Pods, slightly further out at 5.6 miles, offers more seclusion if you prefer that. Either way, Moine na h-Airde works as a morning outing before heading back for a proper lunch and a walk round Oban itself. It's not dramatic enough to demand a full day, but it's well worth the detour if you're in the area and the weather's playing ball.
