Moel Y Gerddi

Standing at 363 metres, this modest Welsh summit delivers views that far exceed what its height might suggest. The climb from Talsarnau takes about 90 minutes through bracken-covered slopes and scattered oak woodland, with the final approach revealing sweeping vistas across the Dwyryd estuary and out to Cardigan Bay.

Walkers with a decent level of fitness will find the ascent rewarding rather than punishing. The path can get boggy after rain, so proper boots are essential. On clear days, you'll spot Snowdon's peaks to the north and the Rhinogs stretching south - a proper feast for photographers.

Families with teenagers might enjoy the challenge, though younger children could struggle with the rougher terrain near the summit. The whole expedition needs around three hours, including time to appreciate the panorama from the top.

This peak works brilliantly as a day out from any of the holiday parks near Talsarnau. Woodlands Caravan Park and Castle View Caravan Park are both within easy reach, making it a solid option for campers wanting to stretch their legs. The summit lacks any facilities, so pack water and snacks. Early morning starts reward you with better light and fewer midges during summer months.
