Moel Pentre Wern

The walk up Moel Pentre Wern rewards you with proper views across Conwy Valley and out towards the coast - nothing fancy, but the kind of honest Welsh hillside that makes you understand why people keep coming back to North Wales. It's a straightforward ascent from Abergele, taking somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and how many times you stop to catch your breath on the steeper bits.

What you get is a working hilltop with old moorland, wind-blown gorse, and on clear days visibility that stretches from the Conwy estuary towards Snowdonia. The summit itself is modest - don't expect a trig point or a cafe, just the satisfaction of standing on something solid after putting in the leg work. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger walkers might struggle with the sustained gradient. History enthusiasts won't find much to gnaw on here, but ramblers after honest upland walking will rate it properly.

Go early or mid-week if you value peace. The weather in the valleys can be deceptive - it'll be mild in Abergele and absolutely blowing a hooley up top, so pack accordingly. Free to access, obviously. If you're based at Plas Farm Caravan Park or Waenfechan Glamping just down the road, this makes a solid morning or afternoon outing without needing to drive anywhere. It's the sort of walk that fits properly into a broader North Wales trip rather than being a destination in itself.
