About Moel Faban

The walk up Moel Faban takes about ninety minutes from Bangor if you're moderately fit, and the reward is a proper viewpoint across the Menai Strait and out toward Anglesey. It's not dramatic - the peak sits at 600 metres, so you won't be gasping for air - but on a clear day the perspective is genuinely worth the leg work.

You'll find the mountain between Bangor and Llanberis, which makes it useful if you're staying at one of the local caravan parks like Snowdon View or Llanberis Touring Park and fancy something less taxing than tackling Snowdon itself. The path is well-trodden but can be muddy underfoot, so proper boots matter more than you'd think. There's no facilities on the hill - bring water.

Historically types will appreciate that this is old Caernarfonshire territory, though the mountain itself won't teach you much. Families with confident walkers aged ten and up would manage it fine. Young children might find the length tedious. The main appeal is the walk itself and those views at the top rather than any specific landmark when you arrive.

It's free to climb - this is open access land. The best months are May through September when the weather cooperates. Winter ascents are possible but the paths get sketchy. Allow three hours for the round trip if you want to sit at the top with a flask and actually enjoy it rather than just bag the peak.
