Mochowgryn

You won't find crowds at Mochowgryn, which is precisely why it's worth the effort from Bala. This modest peak sits in the Aran range and offers something quieter than its more famous neighbours - the sort of hill walk that rewards you with proper views without requiring a dawn start or booking a car park space.

The climb isn't brutal, but it's steep enough that you'll feel you've earned it. The approach from the north is the most straightforward, and on a clear day the views stretch across Snowdonia and down towards the Mawddach Estuary. The summit itself is a working bit of landscape - you're standing on moorland that feels genuinely wild, not manicured or over-managed.

This is a walker's peak, not a family stroll. You'll need two to three hours for a solid round trip, proper boots, and an OS map or GPS - there's no visitor centre or facilities at the top. Weather can turn quickly, so check conditions before heading out.
