Milking Brook Pool

A shallow pool fed by a modest stream, Milking Brook offers the kind of low-key waterside spot that works brilliantly if you're already in the Rugeley area but wouldn't justify a special journey. The water's clear enough on a decent day, and there's a decent bit of bankside where you can sit and watch, though it's hardly dramatic scenery.

For families with small kids, it's genuinely useful - they can paddle safely in the shallows without the risk of getting swept away, and the surrounding grassland gives them room to run about. Walkers using the local footpaths will find it a natural stopping point, nothing more. History enthusiasts won't find much - it's just water and grass, no ruins or inscriptions.

Access seems to be free and open, though I'd confirm locally as details are thin on the ground. Allow twenty minutes if you're just passing through, longer if you're settling in for a picnic. Early morning or late afternoon light works best if you fancy photographs.

If you're camping at one of the nearby sites - Chase at Tackeroo is the closest at just 3.4 miles - this makes sense as a morning walk rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a proper walk through local woods or use it to break up the drive to somewhere with more going on. On its own merits, it's pleasant enough but fairly forgettable.
