Middle Field Hill

The walk up Middle Field Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the Pennines stretching away to the east. It's a straightforward fell climb from Clitheroe - nothing technical, nothing that'll take all afternoon, but enough of a push to make you feel like you've earned the vantage point at the top.

This one's best for walkers after a decent leg-stretcher rather than families with toddlers. The ground can get boggy depending on recent weather, so proper boots matter. Allow a couple of hours return from the nearest car park, though fit types will crack it quicker. There's no facilities up here - it's a working landscape, not a visitor attraction with tea rooms and benches.

If you're based at one of the glamping sites nearby - Hedgerow, Thornton Hall or Peaks and Pods are all within reasonable striking distance - this makes a solid half-day outing. It slots in nicely if you're exploring the broader walking country around Clitheroe. The climb itself isn't steep enough to be gruelling, but the summit views justify the effort. Fair warning though: on a damp day, the fell can feel a bit exposed and featureless. Pick your weather and you'll have a cracking walk. Time it wrong and you're just trudging through moorland wondering why you bothered.
