Maryfield Park is a working sports ground on the outskirts of Landis in Dumfries and Galloway - the sort of place where local football clubs and community teams come to play their fixtures. Walkers won't find much reason to stop here specifically. History enthusiasts should focus their energy on Caerlaverock Castle, about three miles away via the caravan site of the same name, which is genuinely worth your time. Families with young footballers might appreciate seeing where local kids train and play, but don't expect facilities or spectator comfort.

There's no admission charge to watch from the side of the pitch on match days, though opening hours and fixtures aren't guaranteed. Ring ahead if you want to know what's on. It's the sort of place that works better as an incidental stop during a broader tour of the area rather than a destination in itself.
