Marine Park Gardens

The seafront at Bognor Regis gets crowded fast, but slip away to Marine Park Gardens and you'll find something altogether quieter. This nature reserve sits right on the coast, a proper breath of fresh air when the town centre feels rammed with day-trippers. What you get here is salt marsh habitat, shingle beach, and a good stretch of wild coastline - the kind of place where you actually see birds instead of just hearing seagulls screaming for chips.

It's best suited to walkers and anyone with a genuine interest in coastal ecology. Kids will manage an hour or so if they're into spotting wildlife, but don't expect thrills. The paths are straightforward enough, nothing technical, and you can potter about at your own pace. Spring and autumn are decent times to visit when migrating birds pass through, though honestly any season works if you're just after a proper walk without the fairground atmosphere.

Stay at Butlins - literally 0.6 miles away - and Marine Park Gardens becomes an excellent escape hatch when you need half an hour away from the chalet bars. It's free, which helps. The gardens won't take long, maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on how slowly you move and whether you stop to watch the water. Pair it with a walk along Bognor's promenade and you've got a decent morning sorted. Nothing flashy, but genuinely worth knowing about if you're in the area.
