About Marine Discovery Centre
You'll spend a good hour here if you're with children, less if you're solo and just browsing. The touch pools are the real draw - my six-year-old was utterly absorbed for twenty minutes just feeling the spines on sea urchins. There's educational stuff about fishing and marine conservation that doesn't feel preachy, and the staff seem to actually know their stuff rather than just pointing at a chart.
It works brilliantly as a half-day activity if you're staying at Whitby Holiday Park or Broadings Farm - both within easy walking distance. You can combine it with a wander around the actual harbour, fish and chips from one of the proper shops, and maybe a climb up to the abbey ruins if anyone's got energy left. The Northcliffe & Seaview Holiday Parks are a couple of miles out if you want quieter base camps, though you'll need transport to get back here.
Weather-proof too, which matters on the Yorkshire coast. Not life-changing, but it's exactly what Whitby needed.
