The beach at Margate Main Sands stretches wide and golden, backed by the Victorian seafront that's seen better days but still has proper character. You can walk for miles along the sand, paddle in the shallows, or just sit with a coffee and watch the world go by. It's the kind of beach that works for everyone - families with young kids will find gentle shelving, while older children can hunt for rock pools further out at low tide.

The real appeal here is the old-school seaside vibe. The seafront has dodgems, amusement arcades, and fish and chip shops that actually know what they're doing. Turner Contemporary is just along the promenade if you fancy some culture without abandoning the beach day entirely.

Allow a few hours minimum, though you could easily spend the whole day here without running out of things to do. Summer weekends get rammed, so mid-week or shoulder season is smarter. It's free to access the beach itself, though parking can be tight. Coming from Birchington, it's barely ten minutes away.

If you're staying at Birchington Vale Holiday Park or The Foxhunter Park, Main Sands makes an easy half-day outing. The beach itself is fairly exposed on windy days - not ideal, but it means you often get space when other spots are choking. Worth visiting mainly for the straightforward seaside experience rather than dramatic scenery.
