Margate Harbour Arm

The Harbour Arm curves out into the North Sea like a protective arm, and it's one of those places that works brilliantly whether you're after a bracing walk or just somewhere to sit and watch the boats come and go. Built in 2019, it's modern enough that everything feels new - the decking is solid underfoot, the views across the water are proper expansive, and there's a real sense of purpose to the whole thing.

You'll find a mix of independent cafes and restaurants scattered along it, which means you can easily spend a couple of hours here without planning anything too ambitious. The walk itself is straightforward - no hills, no scrambling - so it suits anyone from toddlers to your gran. On a decent day, the light off the water is genuinely lovely, and if you're into maritime stuff or just want somewhere to clear your head, it delivers. Families particularly seem to enjoy it because kids can watch the fishing boats and there's enough space that you're not fighting through crowds even on weekends.

Margate's only a stone's throw away in Birchington, which makes this easy to slot into a larger trip. If you're staying at Birchington Vale Holiday Park or The Foxhunter further out, it's worth the drive in for an afternoon. Give yourself two to three hours to do it properly without rushing. There's free access - no admission fee - which is refreshing. It won't blow your mind, but it's solid, well-maintained, and does exactly what it promises.
