The climb up Mammoth Tower is exactly what it sounds like - a proper workout to a viewing platform that gives you the whole of Shropshire laid out below. It's a Victorian-era structure near Whitchurch, and from the top you get views across the Potteries and well into Wales on a clear day. The tower itself is the main event here, not some elaborate attraction with gift shops and cafes. You go up, you look around, you come down.

Walkers will find this worthwhile if they're in the area anyway. Families with older kids (say, over eight) won't be bored, but younger ones might struggle with the stairs and the lack of things to do once you're there. It's a quick visit - thirty minutes maximum unless you're the type to sit about and sketch the horizon.

The location works well with a caravan park stay around Whitchurch. Abbey Green Farm and Fernwood are both within spitting distance, and Lower Lacon adds another option if you want slightly more space. Pair it with a walk around Colemere - just a few miles further out - for a proper morning out.

Timing matters. Windy days are miserable up there, and you'll want decent weather to make the views count. Go midweek if you can, and avoid school holidays when Shropshire gets busier than usual. It's free to visit, which keeps expectations realistic. Don't expect grandeur or restaurant-quality facilities. Just a solid view and some fresh air.
