About Lower Man
It's a walker's peak, no question. If you're after an easy ramble, this isn't it - expect a few hours minimum from nearby Keswick, and wear decent boots. The ground's rough in places, properly boggy after rain, and there's little shelter once you're up. But that's precisely why it's worth doing. You won't find crowds here like you do on some of the more famous summits.
Families with younger kids should probably aim for something less demanding - Catbells or Latrigg are closer to Keswick and less punishing. Serious walkers will find Lower Man satisfying, especially if you're bagging Peaks in the Blencathra cluster or planning a longer ridge traverse.
There's no charge, obviously - it's a fell. Camping and glamping around Keswick at places like Castlerigg Hall or Great Langdale Glamping makes a decent base for tackling this and the surrounding peaks. Visit when weather's decent and visibility's clear; on a clag day you'll gain nothing but wet boots and frustration.
