The water hits a rocky pool with enough force to soak you if you stand too close - which, naturally, I did. Lower Little Linn Waterfall sits in a wooded ravine near Wooler, and it's the kind of spot that rewards a proper walk rather than a quick drive-by. The fall itself isn't massive, but it has character. The surrounding woodland is thick enough that you feel properly away from things, even though you're only a few miles from town.

Getting there means a decent hike through countryside, so this is squarely for walkers rather than pushchair users. The paths can be muddy and uneven, particularly after rain - I'd not recommend it for anyone unsteady on their feet. Allow a couple of hours round trip if you're taking your time and enjoying the woodland. The spring and early summer are best; water levels drop noticeably by late summer, and it's considerably less impressive when it's been dry.

Worth the effort? Yes, if you're already in the Wooler area doing the rounds. It's the sort of waterfall that doesn't demand a special trip on its own, but slots perfectly into a walking holiday. Both Highburn House and Riverside Wooler Holiday Parks sit within easy reach, making it a natural addition to a few days exploring the northern Cheviot foothills. The woodland setting makes it appealing for families who don't mind muddy boots, though older kids will get more out of it than toddlers.
