Low High Hill

The walk up Low High Hill near Settle is a proper no-nonsense Yorkshire fell outing. You're looking at roughly two hours there and back, climbing just under 400 metres to a modest summit that rewards you with sweeping views across Ribblesdale and beyond. It's not dramatic or alpine - this is pastoral northern England, all limestone grassland and dry stone walls. But that's rather the point.

This one suits families with school-age kids and anyone after a decent leg-stretch without needing scrambling experience or specialist kit. The paths are clear enough, though it gets muddy in wet weather like most peaks round here. Allow three hours if you're stopping for photos or a flask break at the top. There's nothing commercial about it - no café, no visitor centre, just you and the landscape.

If you're based at Peaks and Pods or The Dalesbridge Campsite a few miles down the road, this makes a perfect morning or afternoon walk from your accommodation. It sits neatly alongside the bigger draws of the Yorkshire Dales without the crowds you'd find on Pen-y-ghent or Whernside. The summit itself is quite exposed, so check the weather before you head up - wind whips across here properly. Worth the effort if you want a genuine fell walk without the tourist machinery, but don't expect revelation. It's simply honest moorland and good air.
