Hunters Hill

The walk up Hunters Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley, though don't expect a dramatic summit scramble. It's a steady pull from Settle, gaining height gradually through moorland that shifts from green to purple depending on the season. The top itself is a bit anticlimactic if you're hoping for a dramatic peak - there's no cairn or marker, just open moorland and the realisation you've climbed higher than you thought.

That said, the panorama justifies the effort. On a clear day you'll see across to Pen-y-ghent and the broader Pennine ridge. The walk takes between two and three hours depending on your pace and which route you choose from Settle. Most people take the path via Warrendale or Stainforth, which keeps you on proper trails rather than rough moorland.

Walkers will get the most out of this one. It's straightforward enough that reasonably fit families can manage it, though younger kids might find the moorland stretch monotonous without rock scrambles to break things up. There's no facilities at the summit, so pack water and snacks.

It pairs well with a stay at one of the nearby parks - Peaks and Pods is closest at just under three miles from Settle, or Hedgerow Luxury Glamping if you want something more upmarket. The town itself has pubs and cafes where you can refuel afterward. The whole area around Settle is proper walking country, so Hunters Hill works best as part of a broader exploration rather than a standalone trip.
