Longslade Bottom

Longslade Bottom is a valley area near New Milton that appeals mainly to walkers and nature enthusiasts rather than casual day-trippers. It's the kind of place you'd stumble upon while exploring the broader New Forest landscape rather than make a specific destination of in itself.

The area offers woodland and open heath typical of Hampshire's southern reaches. You're looking at gentle walking terrain through mixed woodland and grassland - nothing dramatic, but pleasant enough if you're already in the locality. The main draw is simply being outdoors and getting a feel for how the New Forest transitions from ancient woodland to more open commons.

This works well as an add-on walk if you're based at one of the nearby camps like Long Meadow Campsite or Stud Farm Glamping, both within a couple of miles. It's the sort of spot where you can burn an hour or so without needing to plan anything beyond bringing decent boots. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared.

Honestly, it's worth a detour only if you're already exploring the area on foot. Don't drive specifically to Longslade Bottom expecting a marked attraction or viewpoint. Its real value sits as part of the wider New Forest experience - you'd combine it with walks through Roundhill Campsite's surroundings or longer routes across the national park itself. For families wanting something more structured or scenic, the National Park proper offers better bang for your effort.
