Longhaven Cliffs Path

The path along Longhaven Cliffs runs for a couple of miles and delivers proper dramatic views over the North Sea. You're walking on clifftops that drop sheer to the water below, with the horizon stretching out endlessly in front of you. It's the sort of walk that feels genuinely wild despite being just outside Peterhead.

What you get is access to one of Aberdeenshire's best coastal stretches. The cliffs themselves are the real draw here - weathered sandstone faces that look different depending on the light, and on a clear day you can see for miles. The path is manageable underfoot most of the time, though it can get muddy after rain and there are sections where you need to watch your footing near the edge.

This is squarely a walk for people who like their landscapes on the dramatic side. Families with young children might find it a bit exposed for their liking, and there's not much in the way of facilities or interpretation along the route. History enthusiasts won't find much here - it's about the geology and the seascape rather than any particular story.

Allow a good couple of hours if you're not rushing, and pick a day when the weather's decent because mist rolls in quickly and robs you of those views. It's free to walk, which is always welcome.
