Peterhead

History buffs will find plenty to explore. Boddam Castle's ruins tell tales of medieval Scotland, while the various war memorials around Boddam village remember those lost in both world wars. The Cave of Inch More and Blockie Head Fort add layers to the area's military past.

Getting here from Aberdeen takes about 45 minutes by car along the A90 and A952. The journey's well worth it for the wild coastal scenery alone. Public transport exists but isn't frequent - having wheels definitely helps for exploring the scattered attractions.
