Lochan na Circe

The walk down to Lochan na Circe from the A816 near Oban is short and straightforward, which means the small loch itself gets fewer visitors than it probably deserves. It's a proper Highland lochan - dark water, steep banks, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. The surrounding hills close in around you, and if the light's right, the reflections are genuinely lovely. There's nowhere to swim or hire boats, so don't expect facilities. This is purely a walk-and-look sort of spot, ideal for a 20-minute detour if you're passing through Argyll and fancy stretching your legs without committing to anything major. History buffs might find the location interesting for its Gaelic name alone, though there's not much in the way of interpretation on site. It's the kind of place families with younger kids could manage easily enough, though there's not a huge amount to do once you've reached the water. The main draw is really the walk itself and the Highland atmosphere. Given that Oban Holiday Park sits just 1.4 miles away, and Tanunda Pods even closer, it works well as a morning wander before heading into town proper for lunch. If you're staying at any of the local parks and want a quiet half-hour away from the caravans, this delivers. Worth the diversion if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your plans to get here.
