Llandovery Museum & Visitor Gateway

The museum sits right in the heart of Llandovery, a proper market town that feels properly Welsh - narrow streets, local cafes, the lot. Inside, you'll find the usual regional collection: local history, a bit of archaeology, some information about the town's medieval past when it was actually quite significant. It's the kind of place where you spend forty minutes looking at old photographs and thinking "oh right, that's where the post office used to be."

Worth a stop if you're already in town grabbing lunch or browsing the high street, but I wouldn't plan a half-day around it. The Visitor Gateway bit suggests they're trying to position it as an information hub too, which makes sense - you can ask about walking routes in the Towy Valley and get proper local advice rather than relying on your phone.

Families with older kids interested in Welsh history will get something from it. Younger ones will likely get restless. Most useful for walkers passing through on their way to the Brecon Beacons or exploring the river valleys nearby.

The caravan parks are practically on the doorstep - Erwlon and Riverside Pods are both within walking distance if you fancy staying put for a couple of nights. Use the museum as a rainy-day pit stop, then head out into the actual landscape, which is far more impressive than anything inside. That's where Llandovery shows its real character.
