Llandegai Cursus

Standing in an unremarkable field near Beaumaris, you'd easily walk past this Neolithic monument without a second glance. The Llandegai Cursus stretches for nearly two kilometres across the landscape - one of the longest ceremonial pathways in Wales, dating back over 4,000 years. What you see today are subtle earthworks and raised banks that once formed parallel lines where our ancestors conducted rituals we can barely imagine.

Archaeology enthusiasts will appreciate the significance, but honestly, most visitors struggle to make out the ancient features. The cursus runs roughly northeast to southwest, though modern farming has flattened much of the original structure. You need a good imagination and perhaps an OS map to truly appreciate what's here.

Families might find it a bit underwhelming unless the kids are particularly keen on prehistoric sites. There's no visitor centre or interpretation boards - just you, the field, and 4,000 years of history beneath your feet.

It works well as a brief stop if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Tros Y Waen or Kingsbridge. Combine it with a trip to Beaumaris Castle for a proper day out, or use it as an excuse for a gentle walk in the Anglesey countryside. Allow thirty minutes tops unless you're a serious archaeology buff.
