Henllys Golf Club

An 18-hole links course just outside Beaumaris, Henllys sits on good ground with views across towards the Menai Strait. It's a proper golf course - not fancy, not trying to be anything it isn't - which means it's genuinely playable rather than brutally tough. Flat enough in places, with enough movement to keep you honest. The greens are decent and the fairways run true, which matters more than you'd think on Anglesey where the wind can be relentless.

This is very much a locals' course, the kind where members actually know the pro and the bar staff remembers your name. Day visitors are welcome - ring ahead and sort it out - which makes it a sensible half-day addition to a caravan holiday rather than the main event. Allow three to four hours start to finish depending on pace. Golfers will get something out of it; non-golfers won't, which is the honest truth.

If you're staying at Kingsbridge or Wonderfully Wild - both within walking distance - it's a handy option for a morning round before heading to Beaumaris town for lunch. For a proper links pilgrimage you'd look elsewhere, but for a comfortable round with a bit of Welsh character when you happen to be holidaying nearby, it does the job. Club facilities are straightforward: bar, basic shop, nothing flash. Green fees are reasonable if you're a member or can get an introduction.
