Littlehampton Golf Club

An 18-hole course set just outside Littlehampton, this is proper Sussex golf - nothing flashy, just a solid members' club that welcomes visiting golfers. The layout winds through open parkland with enough character to keep you honest without being punishing. You'll get decent views across the surrounding countryside, though the course itself is more functional than spectacular.

For golfers staying at any of the caravan parks dotted round Littlehampton - Ryebank Corner Glamping is closest at 1.4 miles - it's a straightforward option for a round when the weather plays ball. The club takes visitors, though you'll need to ring ahead to check availability and green fees, which aren't cheap but aren't outrageous for the South East either. Allow four and a half hours for a full round if you're moving at a reasonable pace.

Walking it is entirely possible and actually preferable on a fine day - you won't want to be lugging a trolley round here in summer heat. The rough can be thick in places, so come prepared to lose a few balls if your handicap's in double figures.

It's the sort of course that rewards straight hitting more than spectacular play. Not a destination in itself, but absolutely worth squeezing in if you're doing a week's touring round the local caravan parks and fancy getting out on the fairways. The clubhouse is functional rather than luxurious, but the welcome is warm enough.
