Little White Tor

The walk up Little White Tor from Tavistock is nothing fancy - a modest granite outcrop on Dartmoor that doesn't demand hours of your time. You're looking at maybe thirty minutes up from the nearest parking, and the reward is a proper wheezy-worthy climb rather than a technical scramble. The views back across the moor justify the effort though. On a clear day you can see for miles across rolling moorland, and on a grey one - which is often - it's got a moody, windswept quality that feels properly Dartmoor.

It's the sort of place walkers and Dartmoor enthusiasts will genuinely enjoy, less so families with small children unless they're already keen hikers. The ground can be boggy and uneven, so proper boots are essential. Most people allow two hours there and back, including a sit-down at the top.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities, no charge - you just turn up and walk. That's part of its appeal, frankly. It's also close enough to Lydford Caravan & Camping Park if you're basing yourself in the area for a longer Dartmoor break. Pair it with a walk around nearby tors and you've got a solid half-day. Worth fitting in if you're already on the moor, though don't make a special trip just for this one alone.
