Little Staple Tor

The walk up Little Staple Tor rewards you with one of the sharpest views across Dartmoor without the crowds that plague its bigger neighbour. You're looking at a modest granite outcrop near Tavistock that takes twenty minutes of fairly steep going to reach, but once you're up there the perspective shifts completely - the moorland spreads out properly below you, and on a clear day the walk becomes genuinely worthwhile.

It's the sort of place that suits walkers who know Dartmoor already and want something less trampled than the famous tors. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the steep final approach a bit much. Allow an hour return from the car park, longer if you're the type to linger and actually look at the views rather than just photograph them.

The granite itself is modest compared to some, but that's precisely why it works - there's enough exposure to feel like you've climbed something, without the sense you've queued for the privilege. Free, obviously, being Dartmoor. Go midweek if possible because even a quiet tor gets noticed on weekends.
