Little Boulters Tor

The walk up Little Boulders Tor takes about twenty minutes from Tavistock, and it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs but not so brutal you'll regret the effort. The tor itself is a proper granite outcrop - nothing massive, but the views across Dartmoor open up properly once you reach the top, and on a clear day you can see for miles across the moorland. The rocky summit is genuinely interesting to scramble around, and the granite formations are worth a proper look if you're into that sort of thing.

It's ideal for families with older kids and walkers who want something achievable without committing to a full day trek. Younger children might find the final scramble a bit fiddly, and there's not much to occupy them once you're up there - no café, no facilities, just rocks and views. The walk itself is straightforward though, and the moorland setting is lovely. Allow an hour round trip if you take it easy and have a sit-down at the top.

Based at either Lydford Caravan & Camping Park or Woodovis, you're well-positioned for this and plenty of other Dartmoor walks. It's the sort of thing that works perfectly as a mid-morning outing before heading somewhere else for lunch. Go on a weekday if you can - weekends bring the crowds out, and the car park fills up fast. Free to visit, naturally, and there's nothing to pay for access.
