Ling Hill

The walk up Ling Hill rewards you with views across the Ribble Valley that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's a proper moorland climb from the Clitheroe side, taking the best part of an hour if you're not rushing, and the path gets boggy in places so decent boots are worth the bother.

You'll see grouse moor, rough grassland, and on the way down there's limestone gritstone underfoot that changes the whole character of the walk. The summit itself isn't dramatic - no cairn, no cafe - but the perspective you get of Pendle Hill and the hills beyond is exactly why you came. History buffs might appreciate that you're walking on land that's been managed for game for centuries, though it feels properly wild now.

This works best for experienced walkers rather than families wanting an easy half-hour stroll. Allow two to three hours for a comfortable round trip from the base of the hill. Spring and early autumn are best - summer can be busy with grouse shooting parties in certain areas, and winter mud makes it a slog.

If you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - Peaks and Pods or Hedgerow Luxury Glamping are both close - it's a cracking morning walk before breakfast. Malham Glamping Pods is a touch further but still within easy reach if you're spending a few days exploring the area. Pair it with a walk around Pendle Hill itself or head down to Clitheroe for proper civilization afterwards.
