The displays cover the religious life here, the making of the Lindisfarne Gospels, and what happened when the Norse turned up uninvited in 793. There's enough detail to keep history enthusiasts genuinely engaged for a good hour or two, though younger children might find it a bit text-heavy unless they're already keen on that period. Admission is modest and the staff know their stuff - worth asking questions if something puzzles you.

Ideally, you'd combine this with a walk around the island itself and a look at the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory. The causeway timing dictates your visit, so check the tide tables before you head across from Belford. Several campsites sit within easy reach - Budle Bay and Budle Farm are closest if you're based that way, though you'll need to check current facilities given the area's mix of seasonal and year-round pitches. The island can feel busy in peak summer, so shoulder season visits are generally more rewarding.
