Lickber Hill

The walk up Lickber Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can pick out Pendle Hill and the fells beyond Clitheroe rolling away to the east. It's a short, steep climb from the village below, taking maybe twenty minutes if you're not dawdling, and the path's well-trodden enough that you won't need a map.

This is walkers' terrain. Families with young legs will manage fine, though there's nothing at the top to dawdle over - no café, no bench, just a modest summit and the view. History buffs might appreciate the vantage point itself; the hill's been significant to the area for centuries, though you won't find plaques or markers telling you much about it. The real value is the walk itself and the perspective it gives on the landscape around Clitheroe.

If you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - Hedgerow is practically on your doorstep - it's an excellent early morning outing before breakfast or a late afternoon stomp to shake off the day. Pair it with a proper walk round Pendle or a mooch through Clitheroe market, and you've got a solid half-day. Go when the light's decent; misty days leave you staring into cloud, which rather defeats the purpose. Admission is free - it's just a hill - and there's no official opening hours to worry about. Allow an hour if you're taking your time, thirty minutes if you know what you're doing.
