Langber Hill

The walk up Langber Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley - moorland stretches out in every direction, and on a clear day you can pick out the distant fells beyond Skipton. It's a straightforward moorland summit, the kind of place where the wind tends to have the final say, so pack a windproof even when the forecast looks promising.

This is walker territory, no question. The climb takes about forty minutes from the car park depending on fitness, and the path is well-defined but can get boggy in patches. You're looking at a couple of hours round trip, maybe three if you're stopping to admire the view or identify the peaks on the horizon. Families with young legs will find it manageable; those with toddlers might find it more of a slog than it's worth.

There's no visitor centre, no café, no facilities to speak of. Bring water and a decent map - mobile signal can be patchy up here. The admission is free, which is how most of these Lancashire moorland summits work.

If you're based at one of the nearby camps - Thornton Hall Country Park is barely a mile away, and Shay Gate Farm sits at the same distance - this makes an excellent morning walk before heading out to explore Skipton itself. It's the kind of half-day excursion that justifies a week in the Ribble Valley. The views aren't dramatic enough to rank among the Lake District's showstoppers, but they're solid, uncluttered, and genuinely worth the effort.
