Standing at 334 metres, this modest fell offers surprisingly rewarding views across the Yorkshire Dales without the punishing ascent of its loftier neighbours. The summit sits just over the border from Skipton, making it a proper entry-level peak for families wanting to test their mettle before tackling the bigger hills.

Walkers will find the route straightforward enough, though it's hardly a Sunday stroll - allow a good couple of hours for the round trip. From the top, you get cracking views south towards Pendle Hill and north into the heart of the Dales. It's not Pen-y-ghent, mind you, but for a relatively gentle introduction to fell walking, it does the job nicely.

Families staying at nearby parks like Holgates Ribble Valley or Parkdean's Todber Valley site will find this makes for a decent half-day adventure. Kids old enough to manage a proper walk (say eight and up) should cope fine, though younger ones might find it a bit much. The lack of dramatic drops makes it safer than some peaks, but proper walking boots are still essential - the Lancashire weather can turn the path into a proper quagmire.

Honestly, if you're after Instagram-worthy summit shots, look elsewhere. But for getting the family outdoors and building confidence on the fells, Hawber serves its purpose well enough.
