The walk down to Lake Field from Battle is genuinely one of those quiet discoveries that locals know about but most visitors miss entirely. You're looking at a proper water meadow situation - a small lake ringed by trees, with decent views across the surrounding countryside if you pick the right spot along the bank.

It's the kind of place that rewards a slow amble rather than a rushed tick-box visit. Bring binoculars if you're into birds, because the reeds and water attract them reliably. Walkers passing through the area will find it a decent leg-stretch from town, though don't expect dramatic vistas or sweeping panoramas. The Sussex landscape here is gently rolling rather than spectacular.
