Lady Hill

The walk up Lady Hill from Leyburn takes about forty minutes and rewards you with proper views across Wensleydale. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the fells further north - but it's accessible enough for families and a solid afternoon outing if you're staying in the area.

You start from the town itself and climb through mixed woodland before breaking out onto open moorland. The summit sits at around 1,000 feet, which sounds modest until you realise how much of the valley spreads beneath you. On a clear day you can trace the river snaking through fields towards Middleham in one direction and back towards Hawes in the other. Photography types will find the light shifts beautifully across the dale throughout the day.

It's not a lung-busting scramble, so older walkers or those bringing children won't struggle. You do need decent boots though - the path can get boggy even days after rain. Allow a good two hours if you want to properly sit at the top with a flask rather than just tick it off.

The real appeal is as part of a bigger Wensleydale walking week rather than a destination in itself. If you're based at Cherish Glamping or Stablefell Holidays, both within easy reach of Leyburn, this works nicely as a morning walk before exploring the market town or tackling longer valley trails. Free to do and worth your time, though don't expect crowds or facilities at the summit.
