Kynaston Rings Wood

Ancient oak and ash trees tower overhead as you follow the winding paths through this lovely woodland near Hereford. Kynaston Rings Wood feels properly wild in places - fallen logs carpeted with moss, dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy, and barely a sound except birdsong and your own footsteps on the leaf litter.

Families with older children will get the most from a visit here. The paths can be muddy and uneven, so it's not pushchair territory, but kids who enjoy scrambling over logs and spotting wildlife will have a field day. Dog walkers love it too - plenty of space for hounds to have a proper sniff about off the lead.

Expect to spend a good hour or two if you want to explore thoroughly. The wood connects to other footpaths in the area, so keen walkers can easily extend their route. Best avoided after heavy rain unless you don't mind getting your boots properly caked.
