Kilham Playing Field

The playing field at Kilham is one of those places that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than a mid-afternoon visit when the sun's high and the insects are doing their level best to eat you alive. It's a proper nature reserve in the Yorkshire countryside, a few miles south of Driffield, where you can expect open grassland, wetland areas, and the sort of bird life that makes ornithologists genuinely excited.

Young children might find it a bit sparse. There's no café, no shop, no visitor centre to speak of. Just open space and whatever wildlife shows up.

If you're camping at Thorpe Hall or East End Farm - both solid options within five miles - this makes a gentle morning excursion. Pair it with other East Yorkshire walking spots for a proper countryside day. Worth the detour if you're into birds. Skip it if you need attractions with proper infrastructure.
