About Kenterdale Hill
From the summit you're looking out over rolling moorland and distant ridges, with Wooler sitting modest below. On a clear day the perspective shifts everything - suddenly you see how the landscape connects, how the valleys thread through the hills. The walk itself takes a couple of hours depending on your pace and whether you stop to catch your breath (most people do, it's steeper than it looks).
This works brilliantly if you're based at one of the nearby parks. Highburn House is less than a mile away, Riverside Wooler barely further - both reasonable spots for a caravan holiday in the region. The hill makes an excellent morning objective before lunch in town, or an evening walk if you want something less demanding than tackling the Cheviot itself.
Historyfolk and walkers get more from it than casual visitors, if I'm honest. There's nothing at the summit - no cafe, no interpretation board, just the hill and what you make of it. But that's rather the point. Bring a map, good boots, and weather-appropriate layers. It's free to walk, obviously, and you'll want to allow three hours if you're taking your time.
