The legend tied to Jonathan's Cave - supposedly a hideout for persecuted Covenanters in the 17th century - lends it more character than the geology alone would provide. Whether you believe the history or not, it's an oddly atmospheric spot, especially on a quiet day. Kids generally find the scramble fun enough, though younger ones might need a hand. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour, assuming the tide's cooperating.
