Clatto Hill

Standing at just 117 metres, this modest summit north of Leven won't test your climbing boots, but the views across the Forth estuary make the gentle ascent worthwhile. The path up through mixed woodland is well-maintained, though it can get muddy after rain - proper walking boots are sensible rather than essential.

Families with older children will find this a manageable first hill walk, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections near the top. The summit itself is a bit of an anticlimax - no dramatic cairn or viewpoint marker, just a cleared area where the trees thin out.

What makes Clatto Hill special is its accessibility. You can be up and down in under two hours, making it ideal for a morning stretch before hitting the beach at Leven or exploring the East Neuk fishing villages. The hill sits conveniently between several holiday parks around Leven and Annsmuir, so it's an easy add-on to a Fife coast break.

Best visited on clear days when you can see across to Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills. Dog walkers love this place - plenty of space to run free once you're away from the car park. Not spectacular by Highland standards, but a proper little hill that delivers decent exercise and views without the drama.
