Inverlussa Church

A small, unassuming stone church sits quietly on the Argyll peninsula, a few miles from Lochgilphead. Inverlussa Church isn't the kind of place you'll find mobbed with tour groups - it's genuinely peaceful, the sort of spot where you can hear nothing but wind through the trees and the occasional bird.

The building itself is modest but genuine. What draws people here is less the architecture and more the sheer isolation of it - you feel properly removed from things, which is rather the point of churches like this. There's a real sense of age to the place, and the churchyard has the character you'd expect from somewhere that's been quietly serving its community for centuries.

This is absolutely worth a detour if you're into ecclesiastical history or simply fancy a solitary walk. Walkers will find the approach pleasant enough, though it's not a dramatic hike. You won't need more than thirty minutes here unless you're keen on gravestone rubbings or doing some sketching.

Family groups might find it a bit slow - there's not much for kids to actually do, though older children interested in local history would get something from it. Historians will appreciate the genuine antiquity without the visitor centre polish.

If you're based at Lochgilphead Caravan Park, it's an easy hop for a morning excursion. There's no entry fee that I'm aware of - it's a functional church, not a heritage attraction with admission charges. Best visited on a clear day when the light's good; grey weather makes it feel properly forlorn rather than atmospheric.
