Ingrams's Wood

The woodland around Tiverton isn't famous, which is partly why Ingrams Wood works so well. It's a proper slice of Devon forest - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think and the light filters through the canopy in that soft, golden way that makes you forget about your phone.

Walking through here feels less like visiting an attraction and more like stumbling onto something locals actually use. The paths are decent underfoot, winding through mixed woodland with enough variation to keep things interesting without being demanding. You'll find yourself among beech and oak, the sort of old growth that suggests this patch has been here for a good while.

It's ideal for families wanting a gentle woodland walk without the crowds you'd get at more famous spots. Children won't get bored if they're into exploring - there's enough texture and life in the undergrowth to keep them occupied. Walkers will appreciate the peace; history types less so, unless they're interested in traditional woodland management.

Allow a couple of hours if you're not in a rush. There's no formal visitor infrastructure that I'm aware of, so come prepared - decent shoes, water, and check the weather. Free to access from what I could gather, which makes it even better value.

It works brilliantly as a morning or afternoon outing when staying at somewhere like Nirvana Glamping nearby. Pair it with Tiverton itself for lunch and you've got a solid day. Not dramatic, not Instagram-famous, just genuinely restorative.
