Hurst Holme Hill

The walk up to Hurst Holme Hill from Skipton is honestly a bit of a slog, but it pays off once you're up there. You get proper views across the Yorkshire Dales - the sort where you can see for miles on a clear day, which isn't guaranteed round these parts. It's not a dramatic peak or anything; the summit won't make you gasp. What makes it worthwhile is the actual walk itself, taking you through proper moorland and showing you what this part of the Dales really looks like away from the honeypots.

This is one for walkers who want a proper leg-stretch rather than tourists after a quick photo stop. Families with kids aged eight plus might manage it depending on fitness, but younger ones could find it tedious. You'll need a couple of hours all in, maybe a bit less if you're quick on your feet. Go early if the weather looks decent - cloud comes in fast up here and suddenly the view vanishes entirely.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Coxons Farm or Malham Pods are closest - it makes a good morning or afternoon activity. Not a destination in itself, but a solid addition to a Dales holiday where you're mixing walking with time at proper attractions elsewhere. Bring proper boots. The ground can be boggy after rain.
